When asked to rhetorically question the motives and analyze one or more of the pictures found on Mr. Sisk's blogger site, I knew the one i would choose from the get-go...
As I look at the picture of the very statuesc military personnel, my eyes immediately go to the background where fireworks shoot off from the very stunning "Nest." When reading from our rhetoric book, specifically concerning questioning the text/picture, I began to question the motives for this picture. The book stated somewhere along the lines that a photographer takes a picture with an intent to make a statement... one should ask, "why?". The man in uniform, being that the summer games were held in China, renders up thoughts of communism. It is also known and feared that China has rose to the forefront of nuclear power. The background fireworks make me think of missiles leaving a nest, or home, ...in this case the home being China.
I feel the photographer wanted to either draw attention to the splendor of the fireworks, and awe the magnificent creativity of the Chinese...or he was drawing attention, perhaps foreshadowing what is to come.
