Analyzing UT....
Although this image was rather hard to rhetorically analyze, I will do my best to take a stab at it. When viewing the picture I can immediately tell that the audience is UT students which are attending school and have a interests in music and entertainment. The ad is portrayed in a very cultural tone. It is in a modern language which appeals more to the youth. The picture of the man which, when transferring the image to paint in order to zoom in, appears to be holding a alcoholic beverage, makes the use of this disc exchange seem cool to college students. In that since it makes a movement of pathos through the way it appeals to our longing to be cool and accepted. The way the word "hookup" is used reinforces the cultural tones behind the image, helping to appeal to college students. The purpose of the picture is to persuade college students that it is beneficial to use their service for all their entertainment needs. Although i feel that there is a major need for music in someone's life and music is very relaxing in a sometimes hectic enviornment, I do not feel the image is rhetorically effective due to the lack of importance of the man in ad. It is kinda random and the guy has no real purpose therefore being a distraction.Wednesday, September 3, 2008
Bailey
Yo MOM....
I awoke out front of the house and saw you and dad come to the door... It was very welcoming and i slept like a baby that night. Saturday night i went downtown to Graham and came home rather late. We had a great weekend together, then my friends and i left and came back to "ROCKY TOP." I was anxious to get back for the game on Monday night. We all went to Buffalo Wild Wings and watched the less than satisfactory showing against UCLA.
I am convenced our team had jet lag. I spent the night at North Carrick and went to class the next day.

Drugs Fry your Brain....literally
- the audience is for the general public but i feel that do to a more visual representation, it was directed to the youth who are subjected to peer pressure daily.
- the tone of this video is definitely more relaxed and not as serious.
- culturally you have to understand the serious prescence of drugs in society..
- message is to raise drug awareness and abstinence from them
- I feel that this video is less effective than the one that appears to have been shot in a more recent time.
In the video, a frying pan is shown sizzlin--representing the brain and its functions--then an egg is plunged into the mix and begins to fry and the sizzlin sounds are slowed. I feel this video used a sense of pathos more than anything because it demonstrates the affects of drugs on the brain in a way that one can visually understand. The ad was directed to the public, however it takes presidence in the youth in that they are hit with hard drug-related decisions on a daily basis. One must understand the severity of drugs in society to get the most out of this ad and understand its importance. The message is similar to that of the other ad in that it is to raise drug awareness and abstinence from these drugs. Overall, the other video is more effective but this video still makes a claim and has a good point...
Your Brain on Drugs....Analyzed
- The audience for this ad is the general public much like the other video but is directed to the youth.
- The tone of the video is anger, seriousness
- the prescence of the female star is very helpful in that people look up to stars and to see them saying no is vital.
- the purpose of the video is to show the seriousness of drugs and raise an awareness.
- the girl looks real angry and serious
- the look of the girl establishes her ethos and makes her credible
- the seriousness and the anger is used as a time of pathos
In the short video, the girl who is relaying and presenting the message to the audience looks very angry and almost gothic. This shows that she has an authority on the situation, and therefore establishes her ethos. She makes herself credible in that I feel she has participated and experienced the affect of drugs. The fact that the girl is in the video is helpful in getting message out and relaying a seriousness to the audience. This is because many people can look up to a star or role model for guidance in tough decisions. The audience is directed towards youth and teenagers. In a more emotional affect, pathos, she kept everything real straight forward and funky so that nothing is left for imagionation. In the ad the girl smashed an egg representing the human body. She didnt easily crack it. Rather, she crushed the egg unremorshfully. The way the egg slides off the pan shows how ones life is all array and messed up after drugs take what the have... This video is way more effective in that it takes a more serious approach to relaying the message, and sometimes that is what it takes to get a message through.
